Most people say that getting ready for the big day starts 8-12 months before the wedding. It includes shopping for or creating the perfect custom made wedding dress, reception venue,  invitations, honeymoon locale, making lists of bridesmaid, groomsmen and the list goes on and on.

When shopping for a custom made wedding dress, it is a general rule of the thumb to always take a trusted friend, sister or relative with you to try on concept styles. They will provide you with honest feedback regarding how a bridal gown looks on you. Never rush into buying your wedding dress because most of the time, hasty decisions do not turn out in your favor.

Take into consideration the length that will be most flattering to your body shape and height. There are various length options for a custom made wedding dress. These include are ankle-length, ballerina, floor-length, intermission, high-low, knee-length, mini skirt and tea length.  The setting and theme of the wedding ceremony can determine which length to be ideal and appropriate.

The ankle-length is hemmed right at the ankles and will not be difficult to walk in or dance in. The ballerina style with the full skirt, which most of the time is hemmed at the knee, will make a fun and outgoing personality stand out. The classic floor-length custom made wedding dress is usually chosen by those who want a traditional elaborate wedding. On the other hand, the intermission length varies as it is cut anywhere between the ankles and knees which is great to showcase

those sexy legs and gorgeous shoes. The high-low, a popular bridesmaid look, is somewhat similar to the intermission; the length in front is the same of the latter but is longer on the back portion just like a mini-train or train.  Just like the high low, the knee-length is another bridesmaid choice that can also be worn as a wedding dress. It makes shorter brides appear taller – showing more leg and of course. Fiesty brides may choose a mini-skirt length for their custom made wedding dress wherein they have no trouble walking in or dancing in it while exhibiting their fun, fearless and energetic personality. A tea-length wedding dress is considered to be classic and conservative and is perfect for those casual or semi-formal weddings.

Photos from bridal magazines, bridal shows, television, movies and other people’s weddings can all be great sources of inspiration for designing your own custom bridal gown. Sometimes no matter how hard you look, you just cannot find the perfect wedding dress for your big day.  This is when custom bridal design services are ideal in helping you design a custom couture wedding dress designed and made specifically for you.  Typically  “couture” means “made to measure, tailor made or custom made”.  And couture bridal gowns and dresses have long been the dream of many. However, few are able to live the dream as the price tags are typically staggering for these works of art. That’s where a skilled bridal dressmaker is priceless!  A couture dressmaker can design, source the fabric, pattern make, cut and sew a custom couture wedding dress to your exact measurements, incorporating all the requirements you need (budget, style, color, fabrics, trimmings, etc.)  Many couture dressmakers prefer to adapt and make up their own designs for you, while others are willing to work to with your bridal design of choice.  However, many dressmakers will not copy someone else’s work . . . and will often encourage you to add some element of your own personal style to a design to make it unique.  Either way an excellent value if you desire a unique one of a kind wedding dress, designer look a-like wedding gown or a designer duplicate wedding dress.

Some of the advantages of custom made wedding dresses are:

  • Perfect fit- No matter what size and shape you are your couture gown should fit you perfectly.
  • High quality- In design, fabrics, trims, fitting, workmanship and most importantly personal service.
  • Individuality- A unique one of a kind design that can truly be called your own.
  • Coordination- custom bridal design services can help you design your own dresses for your entire bridal party, from bridesmaids through to the mother of the bride.
  • Flexibility- Throughout the custom dress making process, adjustments can be made to improve the fit and look of the gown and most custom bridal design services are also flexible with appointment times to suit your busy lifestyle. Many have online studios for added convenience, as you never have to attend a dress fitting! Now that’s a time saver.

The process of having your bridal gown custom made by a designer is well worth the effort.

Daring Colored Wedding Dresses that Scream ‘I Do’

A favorite wedding dress color that is still on the runway this year is RED. For many cultures, especially for the traditional Indian bridal attire and traditional lehenga, red is the bridal color of choice to celebrate the joy of a special day. Always popular, black and white colored wedding dresses are trademark of a chic yet trendy bride. More conservative markets that have not been successful retailing colored wedding dresses may fare better with lavender hued bridal wear.
When asked about the inspiration for summer/spring 2009 wedding dresses and her own bridal collection, world reknown bridal designer Reem Acra said, ” Color, a lot of color. A lot of blues, greens and lavender – the link for it all was really the color. I have always believed in color. We keep trying to push the envelope, and this is part of my brand. Of course, white is a major part of the collection, but we can inject a few colors here and there.”
Whether a bold splash of color or the bride’s signature color hinted in the embroidery on  classic ivory or white wedding dresses, lavender is seasonal classic popular color showcased on runways world wide.  European brides favor light blue or the ever dramatic scarlett red  colored wedding dresses
A popular color for second time and more sophisticated bride’s is platinum silver or antique gold colored wedding dresses.  Since color is such a personal choice, many retailers steer clear of stocking colored wedding dresses as it is increasingly difficult to estimate demand. Demand for colored wedding gowns also varies per geographic location. For example, the southern bride is typically more conservative and do not readily embrace colored wedding dresses even the more subtle trendy hues like ice blue and blush pink wedding dresses.  The more classic bridal styles and shades sell best in that market.  While the northeastern bride is seeking more runway inspired wedding dresses and couture influenced bridal fashions in bolder colors and designs.  However, other countries and cultures have long celebrated colored wedding dresses and bridal attire and continue to make color selections available along with more traditional wedding dresses.
Not to worry, any bride can easily obtain her wedding dress in the color of her choice, despite limitations in selection or availability of colored wedding dresses in her area or region.  Options to consider are purchasing a custom made wedding dress.  Color accents or hues can be easily incorporated into any bridal style.  This is especially nice, as most mass merchant’s such as David’s Bridal do not offer these specialty services.  Also consider, browsing and shopping from the vast selection of wedding dresses online.  Just because a color, size or style may not be available in your area, does not mean it is not easily obtainable in another.  Marketplaces like eBay!, Amazon and other great online bridal shops make it easier than ever to find just the wedding gown you are looking for.
